We are pleased to announce that Mr Brandon Swart (OC 2001) has been appointed Deputy Headmaster: Co-Curricular with effect from 1st August.
Mr Swart started his career at Maritzburg College in 2003 as a student boarder master and sports coach whilst studying at the University of Kwazulu-Natal. After graduating, he started teaching English and Life Orientation in 2005. In 2011 Mr Swart had the undertaking of starting College’s first Leadership and Pupil Development, and in 2012 was promoted to Head of Department in this capacity.
In 2014, he was appointed Housemaster of Hudson House and also as HOD of Prefects in the same year. Mr Swart has been involved in a myriad of activities during his time at College having been the teacher-in-charge of three Cultural activities as well as directing two major school productions.
On the sporting front, he coached the U15A cricket team for 8 years and the U14A Hockey for 9 years and was MIC of Hockey for 4 years and has sat on both the Games Committee and Cultural Affairs Committee for a number of years. Mr Swart has also coached provincial hockey at all levels and has won medals at u14, u16 and u18 inter-provincial tournaments.
Outside of school, he is a national sports administrator, serving on the South African Schools Hockey Executive Committee as Head of High Performance, as well as serving on the SA senior hockey High Performance committee. He has managed national school’s teams to international events and was also a provincial school’s union chairman for 9 years.
After a brief stint away from College in 2016, Mr Swart returned in 2017 as the Director of Hockey and 1st XI head coach, where his successful charges have had a very successful season, losing only one game so far whilst on tour overseas.
Mr Swart is a passionate Old Collegian and a dedicated member of the College staff. His vast experience and expertise of cultural affairs and his prowess as a sports administrator will serve College well in the next years.
