Kavish Allopi and Michael Godfrey (2016) who obtained excellent academic results in their final school-year examinations in 2016, accepted the Vice-Chancellor’s Discretionary Merit Award to the value of R130 000 for their studies at the University of Pretoria.

“The Vice-Chancellor's Discretionary Award is a prestigious award which is awarded at the discretion of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof C de la Rey, to only a few students who have achieved outstanding academic results.

The award is allocated over a three-year period. We trust that this award will also inspire other learners to do their best to achieve excellent academic results during their final school-year examinations.

Congratulations on producing students with such excellent results for tertiary studies. Your school's tenacity and your immense contribution to your learners' academic success will most certainly have an invaluable impact on their future life successes.

The University of Pretoria is proud to be associated with Maritzburg College and we wish you all of the best for this academic year”. - Prof C de la Rey
